Kamucira health center IV staff visit to PROUD Uganda

Staff members of  Kamucira health centre IV visit children and teachers of PROUD UG
The staff from Kamucira health center IV came to Proud Uganda to teach the girls about the hygiene when they are in menstruation periods.
They also taught the care takers (skills trainers) of Proud Uganda how to calculate the menstruation cycles for children, whereby they said that women or girls have different cycles but the normal cycle for a person are 28 days and 30 days. They explained the caretakers to always write down the day a girl joins periods such that they are aware of the cycle of everyone. (Cycle calendar)

Policy The village association

vzw The village is the Flemish association that supports the PROUD-project in Kabale. Recently, the first generation of volunteers has said goodbye to The village. We sincerely thank them for their contribution. In the field of investment in the project in Uganda, we have achieved remarkable
results in recent years.

Our association will set new accents for the future. We will integrate the operations in Flanders and Uganda more. There will be one integrated work plan vzw The village-PROUD UG CBO-WORK UG CBO. And there will be mutual participation.

We are going to explicitly distance ourselves from the charitable approach. There is as much talent and potential in Africa as there is in Europe. However, relations between the continents have been completely distorted for a long time and the members of the association must be aware of this.

Finally, we value children and young people with intellectual disabilities as other children. We want to give them full opportunities to develop and do not see them as minus variants of children without disabilities.

Praise grows sweet potatoes

                                                         Sweet potatoes and pumpkin

At WORK Uganda last year 2019 the children of group 2 were asked to make the choices of the crops they like to grow in their personal garden. Every child gave the choice of the crops and they were given each a plot where to plant. And one of the children who is Ayebare Praise chose to grow sweet potatoes. She grew them with the guide from her skills trainer and now they are ready to harvest. The sweet potatoes from the garden of Praise are very sweet other children comments.

Pumpkins harvested at PROUD Village

Pumpkin plants are grown at Proud Village by the children together with their skills trainers.
They take care of the pumpkin plants such as weeding together with their skills trainer Wednesday Immaculate.
When the pumpkin fruits start developing the skills trainer guides the children to cover them with pumpkin leaves to avoid being destroyed by sunshine.
When the pumpkin fruit becomes big the skills trainer harvests it by hand picking and is taken to the kitchen for the children to eat. The children like enjoying eating the pumpkins which are cooked together with the dry beans.
