Fundraising vzw The village (Dutch/English; Nederlands/Engels)
Waar haalt vzw The village zijn inkomsten vandaan?
Where does vzw The village get its income from?
vzw The village derives its income from subsidy files (governments), sponsorships (companies, associations, ...), sales of drinks and snacks (stands), gifts and membership fees.
However, setting up a stand during a public event or organizing an event, which normally accounts for more than a third of the income, will not be this year due to the COVID 19 epidemic. We will also not be able to raise funds during Studio Brussel's Warmest week, because it is taking a different path this year.
Fortunately, The Village is a healthy association with good expenditure planning. But we will still have to step up our efforts to find alternative income through sponsors and donations.

Subsidie Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen (2020)

They gave us 4 sacks of posho each weighing 10 kilograms that means they gave us 40 kilogram of posho and 15 kilograms of beans plus 5 bars of soap. We were so greatful for that donation that comes from the humbled hearts; may God reward them always and bless them.

Jan De Bie Architects became Atelier Kubiek. Jan De Bie, Wouter De Koninck and Ans De Vlieger opened their new offices in Zele with a reception. They asked visitors not to bring presents, but to support the PROUD project of The village. Visitors responded positively to their request. By 21 of September they had donated already 1.630 Euro. As you can see the new offices look splendid. We wish Atelier Kubiek a fabulous career!

The staff from Kamucira health center IV came to Proud Uganda to teach the girls about the hygiene when they are in menstruation periods.
They also taught the care takers (skills trainers) of Proud Uganda how to calculate the menstruation cycles for children, whereby they said that women or girls have different cycles but the normal cycle for a person are 28 days and 30 days. They explained the caretakers to always write down the day a girl joins periods such that they are aware of the cycle of everyone. (Cycle calendar)

02/2018 Valentine 2018
Every year The village sets up a fundraising activity on the occasion of Valentine day. This year, on 10th of February, we organized a “tapas evening.”
Katrhien decorated the hall

Kathrien decorated the hall where the party took place. She stated that love is the most difficult puzzle although the puzzle exists only of 2 pieces!
Chef Annie with Edith
|
“Tapas” are snacks in Spanish cuisine. Annie, our board member who is also an excellent chef, combined 10 tapas into a full meal.

For instance, you could enjoy “albondigas” -meatballs made of pork and beef, served with tomato sauce- and “empanadillas” -small turnovers filled with meats and vegetables- and “tortilla de patatas” -a type of omelet containing fried chunks of potatoes and onions.

Around midnight guests turned home, fully satisfied. The profit we made with this activity will be added to the budget of the PROUD project.
12/2017 Christmas cake
Christmas cakes are back again. The Christmas meal is the most important meal of the year in Flanders. To top it all off, there's the “kerststronk” or “Bûche de Noël”. Known to English speakers as the Yule log, this traditional cake can be a true work of art, with bakers using chocolate frosting and creating grooves to have the desert most closely resemble a real tree log with bark.

Stefaan made delicious Christmas cakes with the help of his wife Sabine and chairman Willy. The base is a sponge cake and the finish is optional with mocha or whipped cream. On top he puts sweets and chocolate Christmas figurines. The Christmas cake is appreciated by young and old. Both the toddler and the grandmother can enjoy it.

We congratulate Stefaan and his family with this action in favor of vzw The village!

12/2017 Music for life. Christmas inspires people.
Although Flanders has changed from a Catholic region into a secular region, Christmas continues to inspire people to good deeds. Radio channel Studio Brussels organizes every year in the week before Christmas 'Music for Life' and 'the warmest week'. The radio calls for support for charities in Flanders.

In December we always organize Christmas days were people can enjoy Christmas atmosphere and buy Christmas gifts. This year there were also 4 activities for Music for Life in favor of our association. Kathrien Raman baked waffles and Stefaan Rombaut made traditional cakes (see next post). In September already Mohammed El Sayyid sold pancakes. The personnel of the of the Province of East Flanders donated a part of the funds they raised for Music for life to PROUD Project.
Thank you!

Enjoying ice cream |
For the fifth time our association invited supporters to come and eat ice cream to support PROUD project. Many people responded to our invitation and the weather was excellent. Ice cream was gorgeous and adults as well as children had a good time. The team of volunteers leaded by Ellen and Kathrien gathered more then 3000 Euros for the project!

Every year in June Paul and Erna open their garden for visitors. And for 4 consecutive years they invited us to serve drinks and snacks to the visitors. It is great: raising funds in a beautiful garden. Find some pictures of the place.

This year there where many visitors. Belgian television came to shoot images on Saturday and many people decided to come to take a look on Sunday. Pele was washing plates, cups and glasses the whole day, without any interruption. So the team from The village, for this activity guided by Annie, gathered a good amount for the project! Thanks a lot, Paul and Erna for the opportunity.

September-December 2016
Music for Life Music for Life is a yearly event organized by radio station Studio Brussels. It takes place around Christmas. 3 presentators of Studio Brussels play during one week the records the public asks for. They do this in an open studio. At the same time they welcome people who organized one or another event to support charities.
In 2016 6.195 events were organized by volonteers all over the Flemish region in favor of 1.311 different charities.
The village was one of those charities. Kathrien Raman and Naomi sold for the second consecutive year wafers in the form of a heart to support the PROUD project. Stefaan Rombaut and his son Aaron baked very nice Christmas cakes. And Mohammed and Pele offerred pancakes with coffee.
Every year in september people of Kalken, our home village, enjoy their fun fair. Children like to play the fair games while adults taste a local beer and some fair food. The chefs of The village, Willy and Stefaan, prepared a kind of crayfish with bread. Ellen and Thomas served a special alcoholic drink, called 'apéritif for Uganda'. I don't know if Kathrien who prepared the drink will agree if I say that it is an alternative to Ugandan waragi. We sold drinks and food for more than 1.000 Euro.

Kathrien started months ago with preparations for our Christmas happening |
Since 3 years The village invites neighbours and friends for a Christmas happening. The period of Christmas still inspires people world wide to show their love and care for the vulnerable.
Willy and Kathrien put their farm at disposition of our association to set up the happening and they are busy during months to make sure everything will be organised well.
Willy and Kathrien put their farm at disposition of our association to set up the happening and they are busy during months to make sure everything will be organised well.
A group of volunteers, members of the wider family and others, helps them to carry out activities and offer drinks and snacks to the visitors. And there is also a Christmas shop with items produced by volonteers like Stefaan, Kathrien or Naomi. Some family members show flower arrangements at the spot.
And Annie invited the children for crafts.
This edition was special because of free concerts by a harp musician and a choir. The harper and his daughter Katrijn performed a South American repertoire, while the choir sang Flemish Christmas songs.
The public responded positivily to the invitation. They supported the project massively and we are extremily greatfull for their contribution.
Merry Christmas!

20/9/2016 Annual market Kalken
The annual market is a tradition linked to the fair of Kalken. Farmers bring their most beautiful horses to be quoted by a professional jury. Na, Mo and Pee took profit of the occasion to sell chapati in favour of PROUD project . Mo stands for Mohammed, our new Belgian-Syrian member of the board. Mo showed he is a real professional in welcoming and serving customers. Don't be surprised: with his wife Kim he owns restaurant Kamoen in Laarne. On top we got help from some visitors! In half a day we raised around 500 Euro's.
We got help from Liesbeth and her children. Left: Marie. |
The event took place at the parking of Travel agency Mahe. Marie-Hélène can book your trip to Kabale; and André will bring you safely to the airport.
