Missie 15. Deel 1: visie, missie, doelgroep. Mission 15. Part 1: vision, mission, target group.

Enkele leerlingen van WORK Uganda bezoeken de nieuwe centrale markt van Kabale Some students of WORK Uganda visiting the new central market of Kabale

Mission 15. Part 1: vision, mission, target group.

From March 23 to May 23 I went to Uganda. This is mission 15 in support of the PROUD project. We work in the project with a management scheme: vision, mission, target group, operational plan, personnel, material, financial, relations and reporting. They are therefore reviewed every year in the work plan. I now devote a few articles to explaining the work of my mission.

In this first section I talk about vision, mission and target group.

Vision

Young adults with intellectual disabilities as full community members.

Mission

The emphasis will be on full-fledged work opportunities for our students. But also on having a good attitude to life, on the quality of the relationships they enter into as young adults.

Target audience

7 young adults, 6 women and 1 man with an intellectual disability

We start from equal rights for people with intellectual disabilities compared to other citizens. Now that our target group has evolved from children to young adults, there are different accents. Their place in the community, their relationship life and acquiring a job are given special attention.

My first day at WORK Uganda, by Charity

Charity making contact with Pritty

My name is Charity Nshabahurira. It was on 25thApril 2023. I came when I didn’t know where the project was located. Along the way I met a certain young girl. I asked her where the Proud Uganda project was located and she directed me.

When I reached inside the project, I saw students and I asked them where the office was. They directed me to the manager and the advisor who welcomed me warmly. I introduced myself to them and they also introduced themselves to me.

I was oriented by Leon and we moved around the project premises, then after the manager told me that they will call me later to inform me about the outcome of the interview. The week later I was called by Mercy to report for the job.

My thankful message goes to the the manager and the advisor who helped me to get used to the project.

Note from WORK UG

Charity has studied at the vocational school of Bishop Asili. We found someone with vocational skills, cooking, baking, gardening and knitting among others. Vocational skills have become more important in the project now that we are training the girls of the target group for a job at PROUD Canteen. But Charity also has a reserve of talent and a responsible attitude.

In the mean time she started well in the project. She works in team with Apophia, who also has a background in vocational education, more in particular hotel and tourism. Apophia is our appreciated collaborator since many years.

Baking training at WORK UG

Cake WORK UG - Training course Agaba Moses

There has been baking training course for WORK Uganda for both girls and the personnel. Agaba Moses was the one carrying out baking course. Moses is one of the experts for baking and he has baking business in Jinja where he has gained more knowledge and technology in baking. This has been made to improve on the quality of baking products of Proud Canteen.

Student Sarah carrying bread

He has taught on making the following baking products: cakes, cupcakes, samosas, bread, bans, samosas among others. Sarah one of the girls was very happy for the course as she enjoys baking more. She was proud of the bread that was baked and became good and delicious. She was also happy and informed personnel that she will tell it at home that the project produces the best bread. Moses also taught the personnel and the girls types of icing the cakes, which are fondant icing and royal icing. He also taught designing the cake and writing on it.
